Previous meetings.

2014 August meeting:

  • Alan Baldick spoke about how he became involved with growing begonias. He had some old plant catalogs which had listed some tubers that we are still growing.
  • Tuber sale gave attendees the chance to add to their collections or sell surplus tubers or garden related products, pots, stakes, labels.
  • show committee discussed some of the ideas for the next show, 21st/22nd  Feb. 2015.

2014 October meeting, AGM:

  • Good attendance of members.
  • Election of new President, Brian Rose.
  • Speaker was Graham Milne on ‘Codfish Island trip’ and slide show of previous garden ramble in the South Island.

2014 December meeting, end of year wind-up.

  • good attendance of members.
  • Speaker and demonstration of taking cuttings from you tuberous begonias (a good use for those extra shoots).
  • Festive themed afternoon tea was enjoyed by all.
  • Reminder to plan for February 21st/22nd show and let show committee know what you want to enter.

June 2015.

  • Good attendance by members, both new and old.
  • Discussion about future show/festival planning, especially 25th celebrations
  • Ron Exelby from Rotorua was the guest speaker; Growing large begonia blooms for show/exhibition.  (Ron provided numerous blooms for the exhibition at this years show.)
  • Reminder about the August meeting having the annual tuber sale
  • Notice given to members to be considering/continuing propagating plants for the both trading table and the 2016 show.

October 2015, AGM.

  • Good attendance of members.
  • Election of new secretary, J Hunt.
  • Position of President to be filled meeting by meeting from the existing Committee.
  • Ability to co-opt onto committee as needed reaffirmed.
  • Plans for 2016 show discussed.
  • Guest speaker, Shaun Caldwell, National Field Sales Manager for Yates NZ, spoke about the company’s history and products available to the home gardener.

December 2015.

  • Meeting chaired by Graeme Peake.
  • Meeting of short duration, well attended.
  • Demonstration of taking cuttings from tuberous begonias from Graham Milne. Resultant cutting given out to various attendees.
  • Festive themed afternoon tea followed with hot ham on the bone carved by Graham Milne, wearing Santa’s hat.

Oct 2016.

  • Annual General Meeting chaired by Graham Milne, patron.
  • Planning for 2017 show
  • New committee members.
  • Speaker: J Hunt with slide show of Western Australian plants and Kings Park, Perth.
  • Multiple raffle prizes of Begonia ‘Rex’ plants.
